Just Let ‘Em Do What They Do.

Last week the web editors approached me and the other website adviser, Mr. Stueve, and asked if we could do a redesign of the our publications website. Stueve and I are really strong advocates of trying to make sure all publications we run (Newspaper, Yearbook, Video Yearbook, and TheThunderbeat.org) have as much student ownership as possible.

In other words, we advise, but let the students do their thing.

The first stage of the redesign didn’t go so well, so we met again this week and realized we had a near-professional web designer sitting in our room for 35 minutes every day. So the editors approached him about helping out with the redesign, and the results are gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.

So today I’m grateful for a group of students who had an idea, ran with it, and created something beautiful.

And I’m also grateful for a principal who encourages us to explore new media, sees that what we’re doing is valuable, and really supports us.

See what they did here.
