Toothy Drama.

I am getting a tooth pulled tomorrow.

It’s not an entire tooth–half of it broke off inside a crown a month ago. The tooth is dead, and in about four months I’ll get a bridge and I am officially old and can join AARP.

I’m quite anxious about getting this tooth pulled, because the last time I had teeth pulled was my senior year of high school when my wisdom teeth decided to show up. And they weren’t so much “pulled” as they were “chiseled out of my gums while I was under general anesthesia.” I don’t remember about 2 weeks of my life thanks to that last tooth pulling.

So yeah. Anxiety.

In preparation for the Tooth Pulling of 2013, I made mashed potatoes (in a crock pot! Did you know you could do that? It’s so awesome), created peach-mango Jello cups, checked my Reddi-Whip stash, and made sure I had a box of Malt-o-Meal. Some of my favorite foods, none of which require chewing.

I took a sick day so I wouldn’t have to worry about going back to school with blood dripping out of the side of my mouth and not being able to feel it on account of the Novocaine. I spent the weekend learning how to drink out of my favorite cup without a straw.

I’ll take the new headphones the Tooth Fairy brought me, and I’ll load a comforting playlist to listen to while my dentist tortures me. And when I get home, I just might take a Valium to help me sleep.

I think I’m about as prepared as I can be.

  1. Hahaha!! It is going to be a piece of cake, but better to be overprepared than not have enough Reddi-Whip.

I just made crock pot mashed potatoes last week for the first time…so brilliant!

Let me know when you are home so I can call and make fun of the way you talk. 😀
