Sunday Twitter Roundup

It was a bit of a slow week for me on Twitter, as it was deadline week, but I still have some gems for you…

One day, no one will ask you what you were doing the day you heard this news.

I am always a sucker for unfortunate headlines.

And last, but most definitely not least, the vloggy vlog.

Oh but one last thing that I tweeted this morning: I angered a young girl this morning in church as I sang alto. She whispered loudly to her mom: “She’s singing it wrong! It’s messing me up!”

I felt so bad for the little girl, who couldn’t have been more than eight, and I felt bad for her mom, who was wrestling three other kids in addition to dealing with her daughter’s meltdown at my insensitive alto singing. (Her dad misses one Sunday out of every three because of his job. Today was the first dad-less Sunday.)

So before the next hymn started, I leaned forward and whispered, “Do you want to come back here and I will help you sing the next song?” She nodded, and asked her mom if it was okay, and she sat next to me with her new little hymnal. I moved my finger along each word (I should have used an index card as my teacher training nagged at the back of my head. But who brings index cards to church?) and sang in her direction so she could hear the melody. (I slummed with the sopranos for the remaining hymns. For the children, I said to myself. For the children.)

After the hymn, she returned to her pew and her coloring, and 15 minutes later, she presented me with a piece of artwork, signed and everything. When the organ fired up again for the closing hymn, she slipped back into my pew, opened her hymnal, and I helped her again. I wonder if I’ve started a tradition…

  1. Ummm…That LMFAO article was hilaree. Yes, I just made up a word. If they can make up redic and relatie, I can do it, too. My favorite part “we been doin this for so long, you know….five, six years.” Hmmmm. Sean must be just DYING going on 20 years in the Air Force. Poor guy.

And that hymn singing story is beyond sweet. And I have a bit of envy that you CAN slum with the sopranos. I'd just have to stop singing since my range only goes to a 'd' on a good day.
