It’s Monday…

I came across this blog today and thought the “It’s Monday, What are you reading” post would be a great accountability piece for chipping away at my summer reading list.

I used to be a voracious reader. My mom started taking us to the library when I was three, and by the time I was 8, I was the kid who checked out a stack of books on a Monday and had them all read by Wednesday. Family library trips were a regular occurence during my childhood, but they never lost the feeling of being a complete treat.

And then…well…I suppose I was a bit of a victim of “Readicide.”  I don’t remember reading much for pleasure in high school, and definitely not a whole lot in college…until it was time to study for finals, and then I would pick a series of some sort and blitz through it when I should have been studying.

Now I teach English and Journalism, and during the school year I have a hard time reading because I am absolutely bogged down in grading. That’s a goal for next school year: to not sacrifice reading time in the name of “doing my job.” Because part of my job is to read books.

I finished Heist Society this morning. I want to read Daniel Pink’s Drive by the end of the week. And I’ll probably knock out either Juliet, Naked or Forge as well. Plus there’s the stack of magazines that piled up during the last month of school…

So, it’s Monday. What are you reading?
