See Ya, 2011

This time last year I was barely vertical after a horrid Florida flu. But I remember telling my sister Deanne that I really felt 2011 was going to be a great year. And it was.

I ran a 5K.
I visited Apple Headquarters.
I notched another publication from grad school research.
I wrote a book.
I spent time with my family.
I successfully transitioned to newspaper advising at school.

And even though I’d really like an “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” moment, I can’t forget about the boy. He was part of what made 2011 great.

I don’t have any major aspirations for 2012. Surviving any central American apocalypse scenarios is definitely a plan. I’d like to become a better runner. Maybe learn how to knit or speak Spanish. And of course, save enough money to finance my 2013 trip to Japan.

Whatever I decide to focus on, it’ll happen. If there’s anything the past two years have taught me, it’s that I can do pretty much anything.

Happy New Year.

  1. You had a pretty awesome 2011. Not to rush 2012, but I'm kinda ready for your 2013 trip to Japan! Went to a great little restaurant for ramen and gyoza tonight…sat on a raised floor booth on tatami mats for the authentic Japanese experience. You'll love it.

  2. BTW…this was not your Maruchan Top Ramen either…the bowl was as big as your head and full of noodles and bean sprouts and veggies. Mmmmmm….
