Not Outstanding

I am not the year’s Most Outstanding Teacher.

It’s okay, really. It was almost better to hear the anger of my students who had convinced scores of others to vote for me: “You were robbed, Miss,” I heard immediately following the announcement. Throughout the day, other students said it didn’t matter what the outcome of the vote was; I was their most outstanding teacher.

It was almost better to lose, to hear first hand from my students how badly they wanted me to win. Not that it was a big deal in the first place. Really and truly.

Six weeks remain…I am encouraged by that…

Today’s poem.
