Wonder of Wonders, Miracle of Miracles

Every year several winter storms threaten my city. Last year, each storm’s hype whipped up more action than any actual storm did. We had only one snow day, and it was the last day of 1st semester–which doesn’t even really count since the last day of a semester is a bit of a throw-away day.

So when the hype began last weekend about this giant winter storm headed our way, I was quite pessimistic. By the time my 6th hour class rolled through my door on Monday, I was tired of hearing, “Do you think we’ll have school tomorrow?”

I crushed their hopes of a snow day. “No way. Every year there is hype, and every year, we don’t get a snow day. I’ll see you all tomorrow.”

So imagine my surprise, when at 8 PM Monday, while leaving Sephora with my friends Kim and Becca, we learned that school was canceled for Tuesday. Inexpressible joy! There we were, outside the happiest place on earth, jumping up and down like our students probably were at hearing the news.

By the time I woke up Tuesday morning, snow was everywhere. By 11AM, the university had already canceled classes on Wednesday as well; this brought new hope. If the university canceled for two days, mightn’t the public schools? Before the weather grew too horrid, I inventoried what I’d need to have a baking extravaganza just in case, and headed to the grocery store.

By 4 PM Tuesday, school was canceled for another day. I worked so hard to complete all the grading I had brought home (over 200 quizzes, papers, tests, etc) so today could just be guilt-free playtime.
