Rainy Days and Thursdays

For some reason, Thursdays are awful for me. When I was teaching high school, I loved Thursdays, because it was just one more day until the weekend, and Fridays were jeans days. But this semester, Thursdays have been atrocious. I usually wake up at 6:00, teach at 8, run errands, do homework, attend meetings until 3:30, go to work from 4-8, and then come home. It’s not like I lack for routine on Thursdays, and lacking routine is usually what sends me into an emotional tailspin.

You’d think with this being spring break, that my usual Thursday funk would not make an appearance. But maybe at this point my body just expects that Thursdays suck, so I woke up this morning feeling my usual Thursday despair.

I tried working on my thesis, but couldn’t focus. I did, however, finish my Works Cited page, Table of Contents, and Acknowledgments, so at least I accomplished something. But I’m still…blech…

I checked my email, and at the top of Gmail, random headlines appear. The one I saw this morning made me laugh, and inspired a possible cure for today’s ennui:

“Malaysian Prime Minister At Risk In Vote.”

And it brought a smile to my face, not because the Malaysian PM is in danger, but because of this.

Help me, Derek Zoolander, you’re my only hope.
