Land of 1000 Dances

Two summers ago, my fun summer project was watching movies. This summer, my fun summer project is reading for comps. Today I was reading about Mexican-American music in Los Angeles, and discovered a fun fact about the song “Land of 1000 Dances.”

I don’t even know the lyrics, and I’m not tech-savvy enough to post a link to an audio file, but it’s the song that starts out “na, na na na na, na na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na na.” (and yes, I counted and sang that very slowly to post it accurately). Apparently, there used to be words there, but the band switched singers for a live performance, and the new singer forgot the lyric, so he just sang that.

It got such a big reaction from the crowd, that the record execs in attendance decided that the band should recut the track with the new, wordless beginning. I thought that was interesting. We sang that song my senior year of high school in show choir, but I cannot for the life of me remember any of the real lyrics. Feel free to post them in the comments section if you feel so inclined.
