Mad Hot Somethin’

If you haven’t yet seen Mad Hot Ballroom, then you’ll probably have to wait for the DVD, whenever that will come out. But when it does, rent it. You’ll thank me.

MHB follows three New York public schools from Upper and Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn and their quest to win the city’s fifth grade ballroom competition. You can’t help but fall in love with these kids. They certainly show a lot of moxie considering their backgrounds: most of these kids live below the poverty line.

The dancing is great, but the heart of this documentary is the conversations the boys and girls have regarding relationships. So adorable, yet so true, the gems that escape their lips. So. When it comes to your neighborhood, see it.

On a side note, a super coupon to Barnes and Noble arrived in my mail this week, so I took it out for a spin. Picked up Sports Night–my favorite TV show of all time–on DVD. Went to make my purchase, and the octogenarian cashier was most impressed that I was buying the best TV show ever and said, “I love this show!” “So do I!” I replied.

“Are you married?” he asked.

Further support that I am attractive only to men over 50 years old. Maybe I should just resign myself to my fate of marrying much, much older.
