This film is one of the greatest in the style of film noir. If you’re not familiar with film noir, its story is moved along by narration. It’s been parodied on Whose Line Is It Anyway? and A Prairie Home Companion (Guy Noir…one of the funniest sketches Garrison Keillor does).
Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck both play against type in this film, as conniving adulterous lovers hell-bent on getting what they think they want: each other. But taking extreme measures to get what you want can have lethal circumstances…and that’s all I going to say about that.
